I love quality TV

SpaceX-Falcon9

I love quality TV nothing beats some of the Scandi-noir and other well produced shows available. I used to love The Good Wife, and never miss an episode of Game of Thrones.
I also watch trash, its part of my relaxation ritual, but Ive been watching too much so-so TV. You know the cop series that go on and on, following the formula Midsomer Murders, Criminal Minds and last night the spin off from Blacklist.

What does retirement mean to you?

Retirement

Some people still take a traditional approach. They reach company retirement age, and move into a different phase. Look at the advertisements and its all about cruises and downsizing. This works for some, but others are looking for something different.
Some have no plans to retire, they want to keep going till they drop! This could be down to necessity, they dont have enough money coming in but others want to stay in work, but maybe to move to something different where they can continue to learn and develop.

Newsletter – Wednesday 29 March 2017

Newsletter

Hello,
Thanks so much for being one of my early subscribers, I am so pleased that you have joined me.
Expect a mid-week email from me sharing whats new on the blog.
At our age, I want us to do more of what we want to do, and much less of what we feel we ought to do. The website is something Ive created with underlying joy. I’ve learnt a lot about creating websites, working with my designer to set up sub sites to tie in with books and other ideas. But this time this is something I am going to love to focus on.

Accepting a Challenge – Learning to brew beer

Wednesday 8th March was International Womans Day and I was given an opportunity to participate in a FemALE Brewery Experience Day at the Brewhouse & Kitchen, Cheltenham.

This event happened across the UK and the world. Our group was part of an event involving thousands of women across the world, all brewing a Unite Local beer, coordinated by Project Venus, a UK based group of female brewers who are passionate about supporting women in the brewing industry.
It was fun and worthwhile. I learnt a lot about beer and Ive got an idea for a new hobby.
I worked with a wonderful group of women from food bloggers to researchers, others working in local businesses, entrepreneurs and retired. We were all up for a challenge and new experience. Whether we are in our 20s or 60+ its great to learn something new.

Thinking about Pensions

Pension Discussion

Personal Pensions

At 50+ we should be thinking about our pensions, being clear on how much we will have to enable us to plan for our future. Ive recently had a meeting with Pension Wise to find out more about my options. I hadn’t realised I had 6 choices:
1: Leave my pot untouched
2: Buy an annuity

Inspiration -why this blog

Loving Life at 50+

The website is now live and Ive got my first subscribers, welcome.

At our age, I want us to do more of what we want to do, and much less of what we feel we ought to do. This website is something Ive created with underlying joy. Ive learnt a lot about creating websites, working with my designer to set up sub sites to tie in with books and other ideas. But this time this is something I am going to love to focus on.
I want to inspire you, and perhaps my approach will help you. I had this vision, used my skills, and bought in the skills I dont have and here it is. And I made it happen fast. Why hang about when you have a vision?
Ill be writing under 4 main areas
[icon name=”bullseye” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] Health and well being
[icon name=”bullseye” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] Careers
[icon name=”bullseye” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] Relationships
[icon name=”bullseye” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] Inspiration
I could have more sections, but think it will be easier for you, and me to keep to these themes. Inspiration will be around topics to make you think, including learning more about ourselves and how we can grow and develop.

I'd pick more daisies – career inspiration

If I had my life to live over, Id try to make more mistakes next time. I would relax. I would limber up.

If I had my life to live over, Id try to make more mistakes next time. I would relax. I would limber up. I would be sillier than I have been this trip. I would be crazier. I would be less hygienic. I would take more chances. I would take more trips. I would climb more mountains, swim more rivers, watch more sunsets. I would eat more ice cream and less beans. I would have more actual troubles and fewer imaginary ones.

Deciding to lose weight

As we get older it can be harder to keep our weight in check. Its easy to decide to have an extra piece of cake, glass of wine, skip the gym session and before you know it you are a stone or more above where you want to be.
Ive previously lost over 10 stone in weight (147 pounds) but since breaking through the 12-stone barrier in December 2013 I continually battle with gaining a stone and a bit and losing it.

Unemployed but saying no to a job offer, why?

Saying No

I was reading on an American web site that 92% of unemployed workers who have been offered a job have turned it down. Some people may wonder why, but its almost always down to low pay.
Unemployment benefit may be low, and many aren’t entitled to anything, but if you have been earning 40k would you want to take on a job paying less than 15k?
